I had toy pianos and things like that growing up and always enjoyed listening to music, but it had never dawned on me that I could realistically make music my career until I was enrolled in a general music course in the 7th grade. I had so much fun in that class that I begged my parents to let me get into choir since it was taught by the same teacher. The rest is history! I've been singing and playing ever since. In 2012 I got a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
Experience
Throughout high school and college I often helped my classmates with their homework in Music Theory. Also, as the accompanist for the choir program at Southmoore High School I had the opportunity to sometimes teach AP Music Theory in the choir director's absence, administer aural skills tests, teach basic piano technique, and grade homework assignments so as to make the choir director's job a little easier. I routinely placed first in Music Theory at various scholastic meets throughout Oklahoma when I was still in high school. In my senior year I went on to score a 5 on the AP Music Theory exam. In addition, I'm proud to say that I aced every Music Theory course I ever took in college. Music Theory is my favorite subject to this day! I want to be a tutor because I already have lots of experience being in a teaching role and enjoy working with this age group. I fall more deeply in love with music the more I study it, so to have the opportunity to imbue that enthusiasm in my students would be awesome.

Hobbies
I will always have a space in my heart for classical music, but I'm truly more interested in popular music and am currently working on breaking into that scene in my own way. I like stuff that challenges our perception of what music is and can be, so I'm pretty eclectic as far as tastes go. When talking genre, It's honestly better to ask what I don't like. Whenever I'm not working on music, I like to watch movies or TV, play video games, or play with my two adorable dogs. I'm definitely a nerd, but I wear that as a badge of honor.
